- When I wake up, I grab my laptop directly and remove the airplane mode.
- Before going to bed, I check one last time my social networks (and it can last a long time)
- I do not go out without my phone. My God, what an idea.
- Well, it’s been 15 minutes that I scroller on Instagram. I do not even remember taking my cell phone.
- I watch a movie but I have my cell phone next to it … From time to time, I take a look.
- I’m on the Pinterest application since … 1h30. Sweet Jesus!
- I can hold a chat with someone and type a message at the same time
… Do you recognize yourself ?!
It’s sad to say, but I realize that I developed a form of addiction to my phone. I type these few words on my keyboard, it is 11am and I already have 59 minutes of screen time on my laptop. It is much too much but it is much better than before. I really want it to change and I know that many of us are concerned with this problem.
I read some articles about this, but often the advice given is irrelevant “Hide your screens, make a day 100% without a screen, do not answer anyone” …. Yes, this is it.
I work on the computer, as many of you. I did not want to set up a “digital detox”. Impossible. On the other hand, I clearly wanted and needed to implement small and effective changes to release my phone a little. Here is what I did following one step a day.
Before I started, I noted the time I spend each day on my phone. On my Google Pixel, it is indicated in Settings -> Digital Welfare -> Time of use (data classified by application). This information is also available on iPhone. Write them down to find out where you are going from.
My 7 Days On Diet Plan
Day 1 – I deleted the notifications. Not just applications. I also deleted the WhatsApp and SMS alerts. In this way, I choose when I want to check my phone and read my messages. He’s not the one calling me anymore!
Day 2 – I deleted all Instagram accounts that make me feel bad. Here. I spend less time watching life (which I do not have), people (which I do not like ^^)
I also unsubscribed newsletters that I never consult. Well, it takes a little time to do but we are quiet after.
Day 3 – I set hours of connection. Do not be too drastic, otherwise, you will not hold. For my part I put my phone to load in the kitchen at 22:30 and I do not touch it anymore. I turn it back on in the morning after having breakfast. As I already said in a video on Instagram, if your phone is your alarm clock: buy a little old-fashioned alarm clock, it does not cost much.
Day 4 – I removed the apps I do not use and rated the others . I made several folders: social networks, photo and video applications, mailboxes, health … I’m wasting less time looking for what I need.
Day 5 – When I work, I apply the Pomodoro method. I told you about it in this article. I work for 25 minutes and put my phone in airplane mode. Then, I take a break of 5 minutes and I consult my phone. I am much more productive in this way.
Day 6 – I cut my phone while I dine at the restaurant. I will not be tempted to look at my screen. It’s always nicer for the nice person in front of me at the table. Moreover, this trick is valid for all meals, even at home. When I eat, I cut.
Day 7 – I spend a day without watching or posting on social networks. Be careful, it does not laugh. This is the advanced level of detox. I’m only half joking. Go ahead, try!
And then the conclusion, at the end of the day, is that I did not miss much …
7 days later, I invite you to consult the “screen time” section of your phone. So, it’s better?
I hope these little tips will help you.
